Relays

Relays are not just for the fastest runners, they are a team event open to all registered FLAC athletes - so join in!

FLAC participates in 3 relay events during the season; Mentone Relays, SMR Regional Relays and hopefully State Relays - teams must qualify at SMR Regional Relays to compete at State.

Mentone is a great warm up event for our teams before heading to Regions.  Athletes are asked to ensure they are available for all events.  Teams need each member to be there to compete otherwise the other team members are affected and may miss out on races as a result.

Please ensure you read the Conditions & Team Selection information.

If you have any questions please contact your child's AGM or the Relays Coordinator.

You can also Register your interest online.

Relay Team Conditions & Selection Process

If you have expressed interest in competing in relays, the relay squad will consist of athletes in any given gender/age group that have committed to training and competition days.  A relay team consists of 4 members per team.  Team selections may be selected following the below criteria: –

  • To select teams with the best potential for progression to the State Championships with ultimately the ability to secure a State final position, and
  • To progress as many athletes as possible equal with the athletes’ abilities.

The selection is based on the following criteria (in order):

  • The athlete’s best performance (for the current season) over the relay distances on offer, (100, 200 & 400m);
  • The athletes’ proficiency in relay race technique (baton exchange and change over);
  • The athlete’s attitude and being a ‘team’ member; and
  • The athlete’s attendance at training.

The final selection of each squad will be determined by the coaching team.
