Child Safe Policy
Kids, we expect you to be able to participate in athletics at our club in a fun, safe environment with your friends every week.

Our Committee, Age Group Managers, Officials, Coaches and Families are all responsible to make sure this happens. We all need to follow LAVic's Child Safe Code of Conduct.

If there are any issues, please contact our Child Safety Officers.

Please refer to the LAVic Child Safe Policy and LAVic's Child Safe page for further details.
Child Safe Organisation & Child Safe Standards
The safety of our athletes and families is paramount and as an organisation providing services and facilities specifically for children, we are required to meet Victorian Government Child Safe Standards from 1 January 2017.

The original 7 Child Safe Standards were recently replaced by 11 Standards, that came into effect on 1 July 2022.
The 11 new standards are outlined here.
The 4 major changes concentrated on:
-
The prescribed involvement of families and communities in an organisation's efforts to keep children & young people safe
-
A great focus on Indigenous children & young people
-
Greater emphasis on managing risk in online environments
-
Clarity on the governance, systems and processes to be used to keep children & young people safe
More information can be found on LAVic website and Victorian Government Commission for Children and Young People website.

Working With Children Check
The Victorian Government introduced the Working with Children Act which came into effect on 1 July 2009. The WWC Check applies to adults who are engaged in volunteer roles involving children.

Please refer to the LAVic WWCC Handout and Working with Children Check website for full details and exemptions.

-
Any parent who intends to enter their child in a Region or State event do not require a WWC Check as they will be required to be present and officiate on the day their child is participating.
-
However, if they volunteer to be a Key Official, by nominating to the Region or the LAVic for State events then they are required to have a WWC Check, as they could be officiating on the day when their child is not participating.
-
Any person who does not have a 'closely related' child at the Centre must have a WWCC - e.g. Coaches and Walk Judges.
-
Frankston Little Athletics Centre requests that all Committee Members, Coaches, Age Group Managers and Key Officials have a WWC check.
